I’ve written a lot of materials bordering on business success. And for that, I will go straight to the point.
Helping other people even before you think of getting anything back from them is the key to success in any business.
Let me give you a real-world example of how this works in a couple of businesses. It’s not limited to these examples…it can be applied in any type of business.
For a SaaS business: helping other people or businesses before thinking of getting anything in return can come in the form of offering a free trial of your product. If you have a great software service that helps your target audience meet a particular need, offering a free 3, 7 or 14-day trial won’t hurt your business.
This way people get a firsthand taste of what your product can do for them. And if you have a really great product, a great percentage of people who got the trial will go on to subscribe to your service.
For a coaching or consulting business, you could help other people before expecting anything in return in so many ways. For example, you could decide to offer free coaching or consulting sessions. Say a free 15min session.
However, I’ve found this to be highly time-consuming and inefficient – especially if you are looking to scale your business in the high 6 figures or 7 figures. So what other way can you give people before expecting to get anything in return? You guessed it: offering a free webinar, master class or online workshop.
This is so effective and efficient. It could save you hundreds of hours which otherwise would have gone into offering free coaching or consulting sessions. And if you want to put this on steroids, simply get any one of your all-time best webinar presentations and automate it! This could run for months and even years – assuming what you teach on the webinar training is evergreen.
If for instance, you’re a dating coach, you could host a webinar on “5 Proven Ways to Attract The Love of Your Life”. If you teach something solid on the webinar with tons of value, you could ask your target audience to schedule an appointment to talk to you.
And on the phone, you can close them quite easily since you’ve given them value on the webinar. And it’s sort of preselling them on your service. Same goes for a consulting business or any other kind of coaching business.
We use this model a lot in our consulting business. We offer free Facebook Ads training webinars, free client generation webinars, etc.
This works great for any coaching or consulting business.
Now if for instance, you sell training courses or books, you can also use the free webinar presentation strategy to give value before expecting anything in return. You can also use free reports to give out value, but webinars and online training workshops have a higher perceived value. You decide which route you want to take.
And what if you offer a service like website or app design/development? You could offer a free strategy session where you give your target client ideas on what features, layout or functions they should incorporate into their website – which will help them achieve their desired goal. This could be a simple 10 to 30-minute chat over Skype.
The result you get from offering simple strategy sessions like this could blow you away. All you need is to find out what their desired goal or outcome is and then offer them suggestions on how to get there. If you know your craft well, you won’t find it difficult landing clients who will pay you tens of thousands of dollars for just a 10-30 minute free strategy session.
You could give in any type of business – adding value to your target audience before expecting anything in return. But be sure that when you give, you will receive. Jesus made it very clear in the Bible. And that principle works really well in business – regardless of what business you’re in. That’s the secret of success in any business.
